FWIT2010 Air-to-Surface phase
BA5 Monte Real, Portugal
From 11 October till 19 November the Fighter Weapon Instructor Training (FWIT) 2010 course took place from Base Aérea 5 (BA5) Monte Real, Portugal. In the slot phase of the training the students will perform the last part in air-to-surface training. During the last two weeks, the students will face all aspects of their training one more time. All aspects of air-to-air, air-to-surface and mission employment will be combined in the final phase of the training.
During the first three weeks (11 - 30 October) I participated in the FWIT as ground crew. I left Eindhoven Air Base by French Air Force A.310 ( 421/F-RADA) to Lisboa Airport. From Lisboa, my journey to BA5 Monte Real continued with a 2.5hrs drive by bus. Once arrived at Monte Real, the entire detachment (+/- 85 people) was welcomed by the FWIT staff and a short check-on circuit was made. During my three weeks at Monte Real, I stayed in the nearby city Leiria.
