During the summerholiday along the Lago di Garda in Italy, I spend one day catching USAF(E) F-16's from the 31st Fighter Wing at Aviano AFB in northren Italy.
I was advised to be at Aviano before 07:00am to catch the arrivals from Operation Unified Protector (OUP) participants who flew a night sortie. Around 07:30am two fully equippept temporairly based F-16's from 77th FS at Shaw AFB, USA came in for landing. The number two probably destroyed some targets, as it did not carry bombs anymore underneath its wings. Around 10:00am four fully armed F-16's (two "SW" and two "AV") departed Aviano AFB for a daytime OUP mission. Soon followed by a VAQ-140 EA-6B from the USN who are also deployed to Aviano AFB for OUP. With 555th FS operating in Afganistan, six 510th FS F-16's flew a mission in the morning. Due to a change in detachment personnel from the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF), no RJAF F-16's took the sky on the day I visited Aviano. After the return of the locals I continued to enjoy my holiday at Lago di Garda. On the way back, a traffic control held by the Carabinieri was performed who had a AB.412 for assistance in case someone would run away.
